Rev. Carol Devine Honored with Prestigious President’s Award

We are thrilled to share the wonderful news that Rev. Carol Devine, the National Faith and Climate Director for ecoAmerica’s Blessed Tomorrow program, has been honored with the President’s Award at the Lexington Theological Seminary (LTS) 2024 Commencement. This prestigious award is given annually to recognize outstanding service and ministry on behalf of the Seminary, highlighting the profound impact of individuals who have dedicated their lives to advancing the Seminary’s mission and values.

Rev. Devine’s journey with LTS is deeply rooted in her calling to ministry and her unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship. As an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the founder of the denomination’s creation care ministry, Green Chalice, Rev. Devine has been a beacon of leadership and advocacy for faith-driven climate action. Her work with Blessed Tomorrow, a program of ecoAmerica, continues to inspire faith communities across the nation to engage in climate solutions grounded in justice and compassion.

Reflecting on the honor, Rev. Devine expressed her deep gratitude: “I was so humbled and moved to tears when President Gillett called to tell me she was giving me the President’s Award. LTS helped me make sense of my call to ministry, educated and prepared me for the pastorate, and gave me the encouragement and support to live out God’s calling on my life.”

Rev. Devine’s connection to LTS is profound. It was during a class taught by Dr. Emily Askew that the concept for Green Chalice was born. This initiative would go on to make LTS the first Certified Green Chalice Seminary, a testament to Rev. Devine’s visionary leadership and commitment to creation care. In her current role with Blessed Tomorrow, Rev. Devine continues to draw upon her seminary education as she navigates the complexities of multifaith and interfaith work, fostering collaboration and collective action to address the climate crisis.
