One Home One Future Celebrates 2 Years of Hope in Action

In October 2023, 31 US denominations and faith organizations, including Blessed Tomorrow, joined together to launch One Home One Future, an initiative to support congregations across the US in caring for our shared home whether they are just getting started or are ready to take the next action. Two years later, One Home One Future has a coalition made up of 49 denominations and faith organizations who guide the work, and support and resource the 1,000 congregations and individuals representing nearly 350,000 people who are part of this growing community.
For two years, One Home One Future congregations have been visibly caring for creation, displaying beautiful banners, hosting educational booths at community events, joining with other houses of worship to take action in their towns, and advancing climate solutions in their communities of faith.
One Home One Future and all it provides, is completely free. Each congregation that joins receives a free banner and toolkit, and has access to tabling materials, a breadth of resources relevant for their faith tradition, one-on-one support, events on relevant topics, and the opportunity to connect and collaborate with other faith leaders and congregations nationwide.
In the past two years, One Home One Future has:
- added a Spanish Resource page and regular updates to the robust resource hub;
- hosted Lunch + Learns gatherings covering topics from climate impacts on the mental health of youth to supporting biodiversity to energy efficiency;
- provided office hours for 1:1 support to all participants;
- created customized resources in response to participant requests;
- offered tabling kits for community events;
- hosted film screenings such as The Letter and The Ants and the Grasshopper;
- sent a monthly newsletter with information and opportunities; and
- attended in-person events like the Unity Walk in Washington DC and denominational conferences.
One Home One Future coalition partners recognize that our faiths call us to take climate action, and invite all communities of faith to join the movement. Bishop Vashti McKenzie, President and General Secretary of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA said, “We are called to be stewards, protectors, and preservers. As people of many faiths, our collective work is just as important as our individual work. Let’s accelerate and amplify our action and advocacy to protect our given and shared home.” (Watch the leader’s call to climate action video.)
Each of us individually and every congregation can take steps to care for our shared home, every day. Equitable climate action should be part of the existing faith priorities of our congregations, and taking action brings energy and vitality to our faith communities, and to all who participate. As we take visible action to protect and care for the earth, we are demonstrating and sharing hope with others, especially young people.
Join 350,000 other people of faith in the One Home One Future campaign that is growing hope across the US and beyond. Together, with the power of the Holy, we are working to heal the earth, care for each other and support thriving congregations and communities. Join One Home One Future today!
