Hear the Call: Climate Action Now

Dayenu leaders kicked off a month of action, in concert with the celebration of the Jewish new year, with the call of the shofar in Maine, Milwaukee, Boston, and New York.

Undeterred by rain in Boston, Jewish climate organizers and allies gathered to sound the call for climate action, and give climate champions Senators Warren and Markey the hizuk – strength – to go BIG on climate when they return to Washington.

In Maine, Dayenu leaders joined Maine People’s Alliance and others for a #SealTheDeal rally to call on Senators Collins and King to fight for our communities, delivering climate action, health and family care, and a pathway to citizenship in the recovery bill.

And in Wisconsin, the Jewish community gathered to call on Senator Baldwin to get behind a big, bold recovery bill that prioritizes climate action, care workers, jobs, and justice!

Right now, we have a historic opportunity to pass a big, bold $3.5 trillion climate and economic recovery bill in Congress.

Even as we face daily climate disasters, fossil fuel lobbyists and climate deniers are working hard to weaken the “Build Back Better Budget” – essential investments to address the climate crisis and safeguard our country’s public health and economy. We cannot allow fossil fuel CEOs to water down this critical investment in our future.

We are facing a crisis that holds all of our lives in the balance. $3.5 trillion dollars is the minimum amount we must spend in a national budget that finally begins to tackle the climate crisis. And as last week’s United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report made abundantly clear, we have no time to waste.

In the coming weeks, #HearTheCall for climate action continues, with blasts of the shofar in California, Arizona, Virginia, Colorado, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and again in New York and Massachusetts.

If you can’t make it, you can help by amplifying and sharing images from these actions on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, to make sure our communities and our Members of Congress hear the call.We know that a better future, with clean air and water, good-paying jobs, and resilient communities for all, is within our reach – but only if we join together and organize our communities to stand up and demand it.
